Livelihood Education and Training

The objective of this component is to help former prostitutes and assist former women victims of prostitution who have resolved to engage in alternative livelihood in upgrading and enhancing their skills in areas such as baking, sewing, cooking/catering, candle making, and the like. The center trains its facilitator and trainers in premier training institutions, who in turn train the women in these competency areas.

MQHM will also offer scholarships to women who choose to finish their formal education. To this end, MQHM will establish the MQHM Scholarship devoted to deserving and promising women taken under its care to enable them to attain diplomas and certificates that would allow them to pursue professional careers, if they so choose.

Counseling and Spiritual Formation

MQHM will facilitate psychological therapy and even psychiatric treatment in severe cases through linkages with specialized hospitals and expert psychologists and psychiatrists. To complete the overall healing process, MQHM will provide regular spiritual guidance and counseling through catechetical instruction, value formation, and group therapy. To hasten their psychological healing, an atmosphere of familial warmth, love, respect and understanding will be provided and maintained. Close guidance and counseling will go hand and hand. The center has a sister as an in-house psychologist with the expertise and experience in counseling former women and children victims of prostitution.. MQHM will also seek assistance from spiritual advisers who have proven expertise in successfully dealing with similar cases. To complete the overall healing process, MQHM will provide spiritual and moral guidance.

Project Components:

Children Victims of Prostitution

Children Victims of Prostitution

Temporary Shelter

The Rehabilitation center will offer temporary shelter to women and children victims of prostitution in the Philippines. The objective is to facilitate the transition period to their rehabilitation by physically providing an environment that is conducive to reformation. A shelter for children and victims of prostitution in the Philippines is provided until such time that they can stand on their own.

The MQHM tried to shelter a number of prostituted women in their Mission House, but it could not adequately accommodate the former CSWs since the Mission House shelters the Sisters who actually do the weekly apostolate in the different KTV bars and casas. Hence, a separate shelter exclusively for such a purpose is urgently needed. Land for such a shelter has been secured from a private donor, such that a considerable counterpart from MQHM towards the establishment of a shelter is present. Only the cost of constructing and operating a shelter for the first three years will be requested in this project proposal.

MQHM Rehabilitation and Livelihood Training Center for Women and Children Victims of Prostitution in Cebu or anywhere in the Philippines.

This project is entitled MQHM Rehabilitation and Livelihood Training Center for Women and Children Victims of Prostitution anywhere in the Philippines. In accordance with MQHM’s vision of restoring dignity of God’s outcast children including prostituted women, the project will provide five major support services to women commercial sex workers who choose to leave prostitution and engage in alternative livelihood.

As a first step, MQHM will offer temporary shelter and remove the women from the environment of prostitution. During such time that the women are housed at the shelter, counseling and other assistance will be provided. This is to help them deal with the trauma of negative experiences while in prostitution, and to facilitate inner healing. This is a necessary precondition for the overall empowerment process to begin. Parallel to psychological counseling, MQHM will provide spiritual and moral guidance to women .

While undergoing psychological counseling, the center will provide the women with;

livelihood skills training, to equip them with the competencies for alternative livelihood enterprises.

Skill areas will include (but not limited to) Bag Making, Baking, Sewing, Candle Making, Cooking and Catering, and Rosary making.

Upon completion of their preferred training courses, linkages to sources of capital for livelihood enterprises will be sought.

The center will link with government and private institutions and enterprises, which might provide initial on-the-job training, for possible long-term employment.

MQHM will monitor and continue to provide support to former women and children victims of prostitution upon completion of their rehabilitation, spiritual formation, and skills training. This is to continuously encourage them to be productive and empowered citizens of the country and the Christian community.

MQHM will also offer limited scholarships to women who choose to finish their formal education. To this end, MQHM will establish the Scholarship devoted to deserving and promising women taken under its care to enable to them to attain diplomas and certificates that would allow them to pursue professional careers, if they so choose.
